The beach is a wide, open space where the heat and the water invite people to let themselves go, becoming excessively relaxed in their behaviour, habits and clothing. These summer settings bring out the best and the worst in human beings. And they do so in a perverse way.

Whatever the beach, we can always find familiar characters who stand out in the ecosystem of our country’s sands. People arrive looking for days of relaxation; rich or poor, they become equals as they step onto the burning sand. Everyone shares the same aim: to set aside the worries of everyday life and switch off.

The good thing about summer is, without doubt, the unveiling. Not only of the body, but of the spirit too. The beach is a place of indiscreet, unabashed glances at sculpted or oversized bodies, topless bathers, or anyone whose body or clothing has something that catches the eye.

The madness of summer runs through our veins, burned by sun and wine. We are a fine line dividing sobriety from madness, never quite sure where we ourselves stand.
