Biography
Kike Aspano (Toledo, 1973) is a photographer and architect. His work spans documentary, humanist and architectural photography. The relationship between people and space runs through series such as Sinfonía de piel y piedra (previously presented as Geometrías en equilibrio), in which the human figure provides a measure against architecture, and La impronta del hombre, which focuses on walking and the traces left by those who inhabit the city. In other projects, his attention turns to community life, everyday behaviour and the memory of places.
His long-term projects have resulted in three self-published books: Nobleza adquirida (2020), about discipline and communal life in the Spanish Legion; El privilegio de la pobreza (2024), devoted to the Poor Clares of the convent of Santa Isabel de los Reyes in Toledo; and Tras el horizonte infinito (2025), about everyday life and training in the Farnesio Regiment. El privilegio de la pobreza, with a foreword by François Cheval, approaches the choice of a cloistered life through the experiences of the women who live it.
His work has been exhibited in Spain, France and Palestine, in venues including Casa Mediterráneo, the Instituto Cervantes centres in Toulouse and Bordeaux, the Mahmoud Darwish Museum in Ramallah, and the Spectrum Sotos gallery in Zaragoza and Distrito001 in Madrid. In 2007 he received first prize in photography in the Castilla-La Mancha Young Artists Competition. In 2013 he was a finalist in Descubrimientos PHotoESPAÑA and one of three photographers selected for Portfolio Review Favorites at the Mannheim–Ludwigshafen–Heidelberg Fotofestival.
His practice also includes moving images. In 2025, his video works Resonancia del silencio and La impronta del hombre entered the Videoteca de Castilla-La Mancha. Alongside his artistic production, he contributes photographs to publications and art catalogues and takes part in talks, meetings and teaching activities.
